Problem installing (unresolved symbols)

I get an unresolved symbols error message when installing comedi.

I am running (latest) stable Debian, with a 2.4.18-686 kernel. The
installed kernel image is the precompiled one. Kernel sources are 
compiled using the same .config. Comedi is version 0.7.65.

depmod: *** Unresolved symbols in
/lib/modules/2.4.18-686/comedi/comedi/comedi.o
depmod: 	printk
depmod: 	__generic_copy_to_user
make: *** [modules_install] Error 1


This is the only error message I get.  What am I missing?  I cannot be
the only one trying to run comedi with a stock Debian kernel.. ?? :-)
