That possibly could be the problem. Can you paste in some of the compiler errors? You could cheat and somehow install gcc 2.95.3 or even 2.96. I think that gentoo 1.4 actually even has some older gcc compatibility package -- or you can cheat even further and avoid portage and do a straight source install of an older gcc. I also run gentoo, but am a bit wary of gcc 3.2 and have stuck to a slightly older gentoo system profile (1.3 or 1.2 I think) so as to avoid compiler issues... I remember having problems getting the realtime command emulator to work at all under RTLinux. I think it just didn't like to compile.. you aren't running any RTLinux-patched kernel are you?
