1kHz unbuffered analog I/O from Petr Jordan on 2002-11-04 (gmane.linux.comedi)

I am trying to use a National Instruments PCI-6031E board for an
application that requires 1kHz unbuffered analog I/O.  I've been able to
achieve this with the Windows drivers but am having a hard time
understanding the triggering mechanism under comedi/linux in general. 
Is it possible to use the onboard HW timer without a RT kernel?  If
anyone would have code that shows the triggering mechanism, I'd be
greatly ingratiated.  Thanks,
