Are you able to give me some examples of what the limitations currently are?
Or point me to previous discussions if appropriate?

I have had a brief look at the Iotech produced reference driver, with
examples, and it appears relatively straightforward. Perhaps you or others
have evidence to the contrary?

Don't get a daqboard2000, the driver is limited, due to a lack of
documentation.
