comedi 0.7.66 compile problem

Hello,

maybe i'm just stupid, but i can't get comedi-0.7.67 to compile. The
"INSTALL" states:

> * Configuration:
> 
> Configure using 'make'.

but comedi-0.7.67.tar-gz, which i got from http://www.comedi.org/download/,
has no Makefile.

Running ./configure creates a Makefile, but neither configure nor make then
asks me any questions. The make then fails (see attachment).

I'v had no problems with 0.7.66 and would continue using it, but i
implemented the as-of-yet unsupported additional 16bit counter on the
Advantech PCI-1710, and would like to submit a patch for the latest version
of comedi, but not without testing :)

I'd try the CVS version, but at the moment it seems i can't get access:

I'm using Debian/unstable with (not knowing which of these are relevant) 
GNU Make 3.80
Autoconf version 2.13
automake (GNU automake) 1.4-p6
gcc (GCC) 3.3.2 20031005 (Debian prerelease)
linux-2.4.23-pre8
