Hi, No need to demonstrate that linux is better than windows in real time processing, this is sure it's better ;o) First I want to tell you that I think you should not use cygwin to work real time since the real time scheduling policy defined under linux (FIFO and RR) are not yet handled in cygwin. To my knowledge, the only way to have real time under windows is to use RTX from venturcom. I know that they are priority levels in windows thread (from 16 to 31 if I well remember) that should correspond to real time in the microsoft point of view (can not be compared to linux with RT patches or the new 2.6 kernel) but you can not obtain good time response without RTX. Since you are working with a NI board, there is another solution provided by NI that consists in a computer (typically a PXI CPU and PXI acquisition board) working on a NI real time system (FSMlabs or something like that) making acquisition in real time and sending the results to a windows server through ethernet or optical fiber. Look at NI web site for more details. Olivier MUSSE
