Problem with NI AT-MIO-16E-2

I am trying to installed comedi on two machines in my lab running RTAI.
Everything went (relatively) smoothly with the first machine, but the
second one is giving me trouble.  I get the following:

[root_at_gecko root]# comedi_config /dev/comedi0 ni_atmio
Configure failed!: Input/output error
Check kernel log for more information
Possible reasons for failure:
  Driver not found

There is no associated output in the kernel log.  lsmod gives:

(The machine that does work is running 2.4.20)

I am using 0.7.68 and comedilib 0.7.21.
