Direct timer access (2)

This is a correction on my earlier request - the timer I need is 500 Hz, not
500 kHz.  Quite a difference!

 

I would like to set up a 500 Hz timer on an NI PCI-6052E or PCI-6733 without
interfering with the other operations on the cards.  Do I have to set up a
bogus command and poll for junk data to find each timer cycle, or is there a
better way?  Is there a good solution in user space?
