well, my best bet was with warty (www.ubuntu.org). I have matlab r13 and comedi (and rtai) running). the kernel is the 2.6.8-1 and no probs at all. the only think i had to do to install matlab was to copy the installation files from the installation cd to the HD. then all set. Red Hat 9 might also work (it's 2.4.21 I guess), but I really liked ubuntu and it's also possible to put a 2.4.27 kernel to work on it. I have this installed in a pentium mobile but i have tried to do it in a desktop, all went OK.
