Just to add that hotplug also supports PCI. You can teach also hotplug 
to associate a PCI ID with a kernel module and then execute a script in 
/etc/hotplug/pci similar to my script for the usb. The script has to 
have the same name as the driver. Thus, you can issue a comedi_config 
automatically depending on the PCI card.

Haven't tried that out actually. But if you've got some spare time I 
would be interested to hear if that works.
