Loading modules at start-up according to hardware detected at system boot is known as coldplugging, but it makes use of the hotplug system. Loading modules for devices connected after system boot is known as hotplugging. My Gentoo system only performs coldplugging if the /etc/init.d/coldplug script gets run, but always sets up hotplugging if the system supports it. It would be nice if it had a means to only coldplug specific types of bus, as some people might want to only coldplug devices on the USB buses for example. -- -=( Ian Abbott _at_ MEV Ltd.
