'inp' and Timer Expired

[Debian sarge/testing; comedilib-cvs]

I am doing some "analog input" testing using 'inp' in
.../comedilib/demo:

       $ ./inp -s 0 -c 0 -r 0 -a 0
       32767

       $ ./inp -s 0 -c 0 -r 0 -a 0
       /dev/comedi0: Timer expired
       

What's the meaning and work-around for the "Timer expired" error?

Anyone know why I only get a data value once?
