I had both 2.6 and 2.4 with the 6062E. My experience is that with 2.4, wou can have the libcomedi debian package that loads the pcmcia automatically and it's not necessary to do any insmod or modprobe. The 2.4 was Ubunto. Currently, I have a fedora w/ 2.6.9 in a latitude d505. It works perfectly, however, I have to load the modules before inserting the card. Don't forget that you need that card tool utility to see if you get the right irq etc and to eject the card.
