You should check xoscope (http://xoscope.sourceforge.net), which can do exactly that. It's a good idea to make a buffer circuit (xoscope has a schematic and I've tried and it works). I have one running, and it's pretty good for AC signals (the sound card input is AC coupled, any DC offset is filtered). A COMEDI driver for ALSA could be a neat thing to have, though...
