usb hotplug

Hi all,

I'm getting some flakey behavior when I plug in my usb daq. About 1/3 of the time I get the correct output from dmesg:

comedi: version 0.7.70 - David Schleef <ds_at_schleef.org>
usbdux.c: v1.00pre12:Stirling/ITL USB-DUX -- Bernd.Porr_at_f2s.com
comedi_: usbdux: setting all possible devs to invalid
comedi_: usbdux_: finding a free structure for the usb-device
comedi_: usbdux: usbduxsub[0] is ready to connect to comedi.
comedi_: usbdux: ifnum=0
comedi_: usbdux0 has been successfully initialised.
usbcore: registered new driver usbdux
comedi0: usbdux: uploading 1471 bytes to addr 0, first byte=2.
comedi0: usbdux: usb-device 0 is attached to comedi.
comedi0: attached to usbdux.

But more ofter I get an error:
usb 1-2: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 4
usb 1-2: device descriptor read/64, error -71
usb 1-2: device descriptor read/64, error -71
usb 1-2: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 5
usb 1-2: device descriptor read/64, error -71
usb 1-2: unable to read config index 0 descriptor/all
usb 1-2: can't read configurations, error -71
usb 1-2: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 6
usb 1-2: device descriptor read/all, error -71
usb 1-2: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 7
usb 1-2: unable to read config index 0 descriptor/all
usb 1-2: can't read configurations, error -71
usb 1-2: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 8
usb 1-2: device descriptor read/64, error -71

I'm using a usb-dux bnc that's a couple years old, on a gentoo laptop with usb 2.0 ports. Can anyone speculate whether this problem is from the comedi installation, the usb-dux, or the usb ports? The usb works consistently for mounting hard drives, memory sticks, and digital cameras.

Thanks for the help!

Jamie
