Continuing installation problems

People,

I'm still trying to get a successful installation of
RTAI/Comedi/Comedilib/Scilab/Scicos as per the RTAI-Lab Tutorial. At
one point I succeeded in getting as far as section 3.4.4, "Change
parameters" but at that point my display as depicted in Figure 7 of that
section did not display the sine wave shown there. The scope was simply
blank. This led me to suppose that I had a problem with the RTAI
portion of my installation, so I started the entire installation, yet
again.

In at least two following rounds, I have been unable to "make"
comedilib. In the first instance, I tried to move to kernel-2.6.15, and
when I failed there, I went back to kernel-2.6.10. In both cases, the
comedilib "make" step ended with the message shown below:

[root_at_AgBio comedilib]# make
make all-recursive
make[1]: Entering directory `/usr/local/src/comedilib'
Making all in lib
make[2]: Entering directory `/usr/local/src/comedilib/lib'
flex --header-file=./calib_lex.h -Pcalib_yy -o./calib_lex.c calib_lex.l
flex: unknown flag '-'. For usage, try
        flex --help
make[2]: *** [calib_lex.c] Error 1
make[2]: Leaving directory `/usr/local/src/comedilib/lib'
make[1]: *** [all-recursive] Error 1
make[1]: Leaving directory `/usr/local/src/comedilib'
make: *** [all] Error 2

As I have indicated before, I am running these programs on a Dell
Optiplex with CentOS version 4.3 loaded. In that connection, I did a
"yum update" prior to the last attempts to reload the subject programs.

One question that bothers me somewhat is this:

In step 2.4 the RTAI-Lab Tutorial, "Update your boot loader", says to
ensure that /usr/include/asm links to /usr/src/linux/include/asm and
that /usr/include/linux links to /usr/src/linux/include/linux. In my
system, these link names already exist, but they point to different
target files. Should I be concerned about this? And if so, what should
I do about the original links?

I appreciate the assistance you and your people have provided thus far,
but I still haven't managed to get everything up and running.
Considering that I have been at this for over a month now, I'm beginning
to feel like some kind of dolt! Any further assistance would be happily
accepted.
