Hi again,
Maybe I should clarify my requirements further.
I want to use two stepper motors to control two
mechanical slides (X and Y directions).
I am not using any kind of feedback, except that I'll
have limit switches at the extreme ends of the slide
travel positions. These limist switches will indicate
that a the slide has over-travelled and so my program
should stop the motors from rotating.
To control the 2 motors, I plan to use comedi
along with a homemade isa card with a single 8255 chip
on it.
I do not know whether I will require real time or
not, but I would like to put it in anyway, for the
sake of extensibility ( what if i decide to put in
feedback encoders later on ? I don't want to rewrite
all the code) . So I wanted to make real time control
programs.
Turning the motors will be ( i think ) just a
matter of sending 1's or 0's to each channel of the
8255 using comedi's dio_write commands.
Can anybody tell me if this the the correct
method? Are there better methods available ?
I am reading all the docs I can find...but please
understand that I am a mechanical engineering
under-graduate student and I have almost no knowledge
of electronics and programming.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Stay Free,
Sagar
