A complementary standard that would be possible with a moderate effort
is a CORBA IDL interface, as part of the Open Management Group's
Manufacturing standardization.

I'm organizing a workshop next month (www.linuxincontrol.org) where
this kind of standardization brainstorming will be one of the key
topics.

So, I am already interested in doing "something" to work towards
standardization.
