Eww don't do that to the driver, or if you do it shouldn't be put into comedi. Either the hardware supports externally triggered scans or it doesn't. When someone sees that the driver claims to support externally triggered scans, they aren't going to appreciate that it supports them with an unreliable hack (and what you are describing will always be unreliable).
