using command with NI 6534

Hello,

I am attempting to do a pattern acquisition with a NI 6534 DIO card. I 
can so far read bit values one by one.
However a cmd.c program hangs at the read instruction. This makes sense 
since preceding it with a
    ret= comedi_get_buffer_contents(dev,0);
intruction reveals that the buffer is (and stays) empty. This happens 
regardless of whether I choose
    scan_begin_src= TRIG_TIMER or TRIG_EXT

Does anyone have a working example of a pattern acquisition, or any 
command driven acquisition with the NI 6534?
