Ok. Problem came from automake version, which was 1.4. Everything went
fine with automake 1.7.9. I did not think to a problem with automake,
since I did not have any problem on the same machine with the 0.79
tarball.

INSTALL file says 1.7 is recommended. Is it still recommended, or
required ?
