I installed the branch-0_7 branch on a different
computer with a clean Fedora Core 4 and it worked
without a problem (I didn't need the patch for
compilation). I hope I was clear in my first message
that 'modprobe <driver>' did indeed work without a
problem with the latest snapshot and only not with the
latest 0.7.70 release.

At the end of the output 'make install' of both the
branch-0_7 and the latest snapshot there is the
following call for depmod that I didn't get for the
0.7.70 release:

if test x = x ; then \
    if test x/ = x/ ; then \
      /sbin/depmod -ae 2.6.12-1.1398_FC4 ; \
    fi \
fi

Could the omission of this explain why it didn't
directly work?

Regards,
Alexander Heimel
