It's usually down to a .config file mismatch between the running kernel and the kernel sources that Comedi was built against. Someone had a similar problem with RHEL3 a few days back, except that it was complaining about a kernel module version mismatch when running modprobe in that case (see <http://thread.gmane.org/gmane.linux.comedi/4802/focus=4802>).
