Broken pipe error

We are trying to use an external trigger to start a scan on an M Series 
NiDaq card.

The comedi_get_subdevice_flags function produces "ni_mio_common: ai 
error a_status = 88b0" and when the read function is reached shortly 
after, we get a "Broken pipe" error.

We are using 100 kHz square wave into PFI 2.  The scan_begin_src flag 
is set to TRIG_EXT and scan_begin_arg is set to 2.

Any suggestions or advice would be most appreciated.
