DMA overwrite of free area/Broken pipe

 Hello,
 
 I am trying to use a NI-DAQ 6052E to scan from an external trigger. The scan begins and often runs completely, but randomly I sometimes receive an error:
 
 ni_mio_common: DMA overwrite of free area
 read: Broken pipe
 
 I thought that the error could have been solved by increasing the buffer sizes, but this only seems to sometimes delay the error. The error seems intermittent, and it is not predictably repeatable. 
 
 What causes this error, and what can be done to keep it from happening?
