I would like to be involved, at least as far as the definition of the API
standard for data acquisition is concerned: I think a discussion is needed
first about how 'the ideal' API should look like. The RTDM people (Jan
Kiszka in particular) have done some very interesting work in this domain;
my suggestion would be to have some more discussions with representatives
from various _application_ domains that will use the data acquisition API,
in order to make sure in advance that the developments will be well
received.

Personally, I am actively involved in robot and machine tool control (via
our open source project www.orocos.org), where data acquisition is a very
important topic. Other domains that should provide representatives are:
audio and video, signal processing (medical, astronomy, physics, ...),
process control industry, aeronautical and aerospace (who have long
experience with certification of all kinds of software), and the embedded
and consumer electronics industries.

Thanks again for trying to get something off the ground!

Best regards,
